Coàgul "Jo regnaré, àngel de la guarda" 7'' EP
€6.00 - €8.00

"Jo regnaré, Àngel de la guarda" is Coàgul’s last release (January 2020), and the first record being published by Catalan label Alejandra.

In this new single, this artist from Barcelona is offering two tracks conforming a new ‘coagulation’ whose axis is the symbolic figure of Barcelona’s main Cathedral. Coàgul keeps on exploring the grounds of industrial pop music, Catalan folk songs of Christian and pre-Christian origins, and “mákina” music (TN: the Spanish counterpart of happy hardcore electronic music). Field recordings are an essential part in the construction of these two pieces: all sampled bell chimes are field recordings from Barcelona’s Cathedral, and the GPS-traced route in “Àngel de la Guarda” tries to delimit the building’s area by the naming of the adjoining streets.

This building has allowed Coàgul to create two songs that work as the reconstruction of a series of correspondences and meanings that intersect and happen in it. Being used to spend lots of time inside its walls of stone, he has built these two tracks as an exercise of condensation and putting into order the infinity of meanings coinciding in this emblematic, heterotopic and profoundly symbolic place. The meticulous listener will be able to recognize different symbolic strokes working as base and origin of both songs: the voice whispering in Latin language in “Jo regnaré” is reciting Saint Benedict’s exorcist prayer; the sentence ‘yo reinaré’ [I Shall Reign] is the Colombia-worshipped Divino Niño’s motto, and the lyrics of “Àngel de la Guarda” are taken from the popular children’s prayer of pre-Christian origins. They are two songs heavily marked by psychogeography in which one can observe the influence that a geographical space such as Barcelona’s Cathedral exerts upon a mind that is trained to watch and connect the footprints of an infinity of devotions and artistic and musical trends. "Jo regnaré, Àngel de la guarda" is a precise intellectual and musical exercise that works as a catalizer of a personal interpretation of the Christian dogmas.
